Range #2 Rules, Regulations and Qualifications
Range #2 (R2) is the 300-yard rifle range located between Range #3 (steel range) and Range #1 (common 100-yard range).
R2 is open to LRPC members who have successfully completed the R2 orientation and have received the membership badge designation. Qualified members may have only one (1) guest on R2.
A) MEMBER QUALIFICATION FOR RANGE USE
1) Shooters must demonstrate proper range safety protocol, hold a group, and apply appropriate elevation and windage (optics or iron sights) at various ranging distances as specified below.
2) In order to meet the requirements, members must pass a qualification course and prove competency and knowledge of establishing range zeroes at 100-yard and 300-yard firing distances. They must also demonstrate their ability to fire at each distance and maintain a consecutive 5 shot group no greater than 12” @ 100-yard and 36” @ 300-yard distances. At the discretion of the range qualifying range officer R2 candidates may be asked to fire at a steel target in lieu of a paper target.
3) All R2 candidates will begin the shooting sequence on R1 at the 100 yd firing point using club-approved cartridges in a rifle. All participants will shoot from a supported position – bench or prone at both shooting distances. Shooting rests, shooting bags, bipods, slings, or any other stabilization devices are permitted during all phases of the qualification. The Range Officer (RO) will allow shooters 10 minutes to validate a 100-yard zero using a 12-inch target with a 6 inch black bullseye. Ten additional minutes will be allotted a 5 shot consecutive string of fire for score. Additional time may be allotted at the RO’s discretion. Any shooter unable to place 5 consecutive shots within the appropriate target will be disqualified to proceed to the 300-yard firing distances. If disqualified, you may reschedule to participate in a future qualification event.
4) Shooters passing the 100-yard event will proceed to R2. All range safety rules apply while handling and transporting firearms. Shooters will assemble at the 300-yard firing line of R2. Shooters will fire from a prone or bench position. The RO will validate that all shooters have established a 300-yard zero within a reasonable time. A 36-inch target with an 18-inch black bullseye will be posted and 10 minutes will be allotted for the qualifying 5 shot string of fire. Additional time may be allotted at the RO’s discretion. Any shooter unable to place 5 consecutive shots within the appropriate target will be disqualified. If disqualified, you may reschedule to participate at the next R2 qualification event.
5) Individuals who have satisfactorily completed the LRPC R2 qualification program will receive the appropriate designation on their member badge.
6) Any LRPC member not receiving the appropriate R2 credentials may not fire on R2 unless supervised by a qualified member. Failure to comply with this rule will result in suspension, loss of membership, or possible criminal prosecution. The exception would be a LRPC sanctioned event.
B) AMMUNITION AND TARGETS
1) All ammunition fired on R2 must be rifle ammunition chambered in a club approved caliber. Maximum muzzle energy/velocity rules may apply if destruction of target fixtures and/or backstop occurs.
2) The steel rimfire lane located on the east side of R2 is for rimfire only. This is visually marked at the firing line.
3) No pistol caliber ammunition is permitted on R2.
4) Neither armor piercing nor steel core ammunition are permitted on this range.
5) Club provided AR-500/550 steel targets (reactive targets) and club approved wooden frame target holders are the only acceptable targets and frames.
a) Steel targets are located at the center line of R2. Targets are hung at the 200 yd, 250 yd, and 300 yd distances relative to the 300 yd firing line. Steel targets may be fired at the 300 yd designated centerline firing positions ONLY. These are clearly marked at the 300 yd shooting position. Only two shooters may fire at any given time and must stay in the designated steel lane. All violations will result in disciplinary action.
b) Wooden target frames are located at the zero line to the east and west of the centerline steel shooting positions. Shooting positions will be appropriately marked to allow for proper alignment to the coinciding targets located at the zero line. Club approved target backers will be placed within the vertical posts and horizontal stringers. The targeting area is 48”x48” and paper targets shall be placed on the designated backer area. Paper targets shall be centered and attached (stapled, pasted, taped) to the backer.
c) 200 yard wooden targets are located on the eastern side of the range. These two targets can be used for any club approved rifle cartridge including rimfire. These two wooden targets can be used to shoot off-hand. Between there paper targets are steel targets which are for rimfire only. Rimfire only is clearly marked at the firing line.
